◆文学教育研究会(Study Group for Literature in Language Education)

１．研究会の概要
当研究会は、英語教育を人間教育の立場から考えるという精神に立ち、英語教育学・英語学に限らず、英米文学専攻の英語教師の視点からも大学英語教育における、効果的な文学教材の使用について研究しています。基本的な活動は、文学作品を使った英語教育の研究報告や実践報告、文学教育、英語教育、リーディングの教授法に関する論文の紹介などです。個人研究に関しては、英語教授法に限らず、純粋な英米文学の研究も含まれます。活動日程は、年5回（2008年度は5月、7月、10月、12月、2月)の例会を同志社大学、今出川校地内で開催しています。

２．2009年度の活動報告
　文学教育研究会では、大学英語教育における効果的な文学教材の使用について研究を進めてきました。2009年度は4月、6月、10月、12月、2月の計5回、同志社大学今出川キャンパスで研究会を開催し、様々な文学作品を使用した授業の実践報告を中心に研究発表を行いました。毎回、10名から20名の会員が出席し、発表後は大変活発な質疑応答がなされました。
　７月には、京都キャンパスプラザにて開催されたJACET関西支部の第一回講演会を当研究会が担当し、「英語教育における文学教材の可能性」というテーマでシンポジウムを企画しました。本シンポジウムでは、４名の会員が文学を素材として様々な方法で行った授業の実践例を基に、文学は多角的に利用できる優れた教材であり、多様な授業を可能にし、学習者にも有用であるとの提案をしました。
　12月には京都産業大学外国語学部教授のThomas N. Robb先生を招き、同志社大学今出川キャンパスで講演会を開催致しました。『Literature and Extensive Reading -- Oil and Water?』と題した先生の講演は、含蓄に富む内容で参加者から高い評価を得ました。本講演会はJACETからの補助金を利用して開催致しましたが、今後も文学教育に関する講演会等の企画を継続して行っていきたいと考えております。
　近年、当研究会の活動は、英語教育と文学研究の橋渡しをするものとして、両分野の研究者から注目を集めるようになり、会員数も増加しています。関西支部の研究会の中でも長い伝統を誇る当研究会は、今後も文学の「語学＋α」教材としての可能性を追求していく所存です。

3. 2010年度の活動予定
　定例会は隔月（2月、4月、6月、10月、12月）で、計５回の研究会を開催する予定です。基本的には、第４週目の土曜日、午後２時から５時の予定ですが、発表者の都合で変更する場合がありますので、詳細は文学教育研究会のブログでご確認ください。
　定例会では、文学教育に関する文献の紹介と、文学教材を使用した授業の実践報告を行います。また、昨年度同様、会員以外の講師を招いた講演会も開催する予定です。最後に、2010年度末に、文学教育研究会の紀要第３号の出版を予定しています。

1. Main Theme

The Study Group for Literature in Language Education, in line with its guiding philosophy of “language education as human cultivation,” promotes the use of literature as a way to make English language education more relevant to the human experience of the student. In pursuit of that goal our members employ a wide variety of methodologies, including English literary criticism, English pedagogy, and English philology. The formal activities of the Study Group center on the presentation of research papers and practical reports relating to the classroom use of literature and the acquisition of related skills such as reading. The Study Group also encourages individual projects in areas ranging from English teaching methods to pure research in English and American literature.
At present the Study Group for Literature in Language Education has the longest history in the Kansai Chapter, and has over the past few years experienced a steady increase in membership. Recently our activities have come to the attention of scholars in both English education and literary studies, who view our work as a bridge between the two fields. We will continue to investigate the unique contributions of literature as a teaching material.

２．Summary of Activities in 2009

During the 2009 academic year we continued our work on the effective use of literary materials in university-level English education. Meetings were held in April, June, October, December, and February at the Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus. The presentations consisted principally of practical reports on the use of literature in English language classes.
In July we organized the first conference of the JECET Kansai Chapter, during which we hosted a symposium entitled “Possibilities for the Use of Literary Materials in English Education.” Four members of our group presented reports based on their classroom experience, showing various ways in which literature can excel as a teaching material in a wide range of classes, and explaining how it has proved popular with the students as well.
At our December meeting Dr. Thomas N. Robb of Kyoto Sangyo University delivered a lecture entitled “ Literature and Extensive Reading Oil and Water?” Dr. Robb’s address discussed a number of interesting issues related to the use of literature in language education, and received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

３．Plans for 2010

Regular meetings are scheduled for May, July, October, December and February at the Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus. Detailed information for each meeting is available on our blog (http://literaturestudy.vox.com/).
At each meeting presentations on the use of literature in language education will be made, and various materials on the subject will be available. Lectures by influential guest speakers from outside the group are also planned.
In March of 2011 we are planning to publish volume 3 of our periodical, Journal of Literature in Language Education.

４．Message to Prospective Members

The membership of the Study Group for Literature in Language Education presently stands at more than fifty, ensuring lively contributions and active discussions at every meeting. The meetings are followed by informal get-togethers where the members can exchange views in a relaxed atmosphere. Anyone interested in the effective use of literature for the teaching of English is welcome.

１．研究会の概要
本研究会では、学習英文法をテーマに、さまざまな分野の方から発表いただくことによって、理論と実践の融合を目指しています。したがって、①近年の英語学・言語学研究によりどのような知見が得られたか、②それをどのようにして学習英文法に取り入れるか、の２点に大きな関心をもって活動を行っております。

２．2009年度の活動報告
2008年度には6/24, 9/27, 11/30, そして2009年には3/1に、計４回研究会を開催いたしました。また、7/25にはJACET関西支部第一回講演会におけるシンポジウムを開催いたしました。
2009年度は、「近年の英語学・言語学研究によりどのような知見が得られたか、また、それをどのようにして学習英文法に取り入れるかを考えると同時に、日本で一般に受け入れられている学習英文法の枠組みそのものについても代案を提示し、日本人学習者に適した学習英文法を見出す」をテーマとして活動しています。しかし、今期においては、３月までに読書会や研究会を企画しましたが、代表者自身の勤務先の組織改編や家庭の事情により実現に至りませんでした。

３．2010年度の活動予定
本年度は、2ヶ月～3ヶ月に1度の開催を予定しています。これまで同様に、生成文法、認知言語学、談話文法、機能文法、語用論、コーパス言語学などの領域における研究成果の一端をご紹介いただき、それをもとにして全員でディスカッションするという方式で運営していきたいと考えています。

コミュニケーション教育の陰に隠れがちな英文法教育を、いろいろな視点から活性化させるために、分野を特定せず、英文法をキーワードに、さまざまな分野の方にご参加いただきたいと願っています。

◆英語力指標研究会（English Language Proficiency Indices）

１．研究会の概要
研究の目的は、英語学習の各段階（小学校、中学、高校、大学、大学院、企業）で必要となる英語力とはどのような指標を持って定められるべきか、また英語教員に必要となる英語力と英語指導力とはどのようなものであるべきかについて、多角的に研究調査し、多方面から検討を重ねるということです。まだこれからどのような活動が展開されるか未知数ですが、研究課題が多岐にわたるため、学際的に検討が行われることが期待されます。本研究会の研究成果により、日本の英語教育政策に応用させるべき有益なデータを提示できればと願っています。

２．2009年度の活動報告
2009年度の活動は小学校英語活動、教育実習、学級担任の英語活動、小学校教員の英語研修の現状と展望、そして近隣諸国(台湾)に見る小学校英語教員養成の現状をテーマに、「小学校外国語活動と大学教育との接点を求めて～教員養成の現状と展望～」と題したシンポジウムを行いました。また、小学校英語活動指導者資質診断テストについての研究発表も行われ、活発に意見交換が行われました。

３．2010年度の活動予定
大学生や現職教員のニーズを分析し，望ましい教員養成カリキュラムのシラバス構築に向けて模索し、さらに，小学校教員の英語力指標作成を目指します。

1. Overview of the English Language Proficiency Indices SIG

The purpose of our research is to design English proficiency indices for those who study English from the elementary school level to professional levels, and to describe English proficiency standards and teaching skills that are required of university English teachers. We consider interdisciplinary points of view in order to reflect the diversity and expansiveness of our research. The results of our research should provide important data for the development of English education policy in Japan.

２．Our Research Activity in 2009

Last academic year, the ELPI SIG, conducted a symposium entitled “Bridging Elementary School English Activities and College Education; Status quo and vision for teacher training.” At the symposium, panelists and participants discussed teaching practicum for elementary school English activities, activities generated by homeroom teachers, the present state of outlook for English training for elementary school teachers, and examples of teacher training in Taiwan. At one of our meetings, we had a guest speaker who reported on a pilot study conducted to measure the English language skills needed for elementary school teachers.　A lively discussion followed the presentation.

３．Our Research Activity Plans for 2010

We are planning to conduct a needs assessment survey of university students and elementary school teachers who will teach English at elementary schools. We are also working on the development of a syllabus for teacher training, and English proficiency indices for elementary school teachers.

１．研究会の概要
さまざまな分野の専門教員との連携をとりながら、各専門分野のニーズ分析、ジャンル分析を行ないます。また、その分析結果をもとに教材作りやカリキュラム編成を検討します。どのような専門分野でもESPを取り入れた授業ができる教員、専門分野への橋渡し的役割を担える教員を育てていくのが我々の大きな目標です。EGP教員であっても、また、専門分野が異なるESP教員であっても、与えられた現場でESP授業が行なえる「普遍性をもったESP授業計画の体系化」の実現に向けて、常に理論面と実践面の両方から研究を進めています。

２．2009年度の活動報告
年間5回の例会で、ESPの最新事情、文理融合、大学院と学部の連携、演出家の視点を取り入れた授業運営などのテーマで発表、講演を行いました。また、具体的な素材を用いてESP的視点で教材を作成するワークショップを行い、そこから実際の「物理の英語」の期末試験問題に応用される実践例を見ました。国際協力現場のESPを追及するプロジェクトが紹介され、積極的に関与していくこととなりました。

３．2010年度の活動予定
ESP各分野最前線からの報告、ESP実践力を高めるためのワークショップ（教材開発、授業実践等）、具体的事案（新学部開設やカリキュラム改編等）とリンクした議論などを中心に、5月、7月、10月、12月、2月に例会を行う予定です。

１. Main Theme

The ESP SIG works toward the development and evaluation of ESP curricula and teaching methods based on needs analyses and genre analyses conducted with assistance from experts of content fields or disciplines. Our ultimate aim is to support English teachers to enable them to utilize ESP approaches to their English courses in order to meet the communication needs of various academic and professional communities. We pursue both theoretical and practical aspects of ESP, aiming to achieve universality of systematic ESP approaches that can help EGP teachers and novice ESP teachers understand and utilize the effective language teaching and learning concepts offered by the sociolinguistic approach of ESP.

２．Summary of Activities in 2009

We held five regular meetings with presentations and workshops on various topics including current issues in ESP, integration of humanities and science, collaboration between graduate and undergraduate programs, and class management from a drama director’s perspective. In one workshop, participants developed ESP teaching materials based on a science article, which led to good examples of ESP application for the final exam of an “English for Physics” course. A currently on-going project is on ESP for international cooperation.

３．Plans for 2010

Regular meetings are held in May, July, October, December and February, featuring reports from the frontlines of different areas of ESP; workshops to enhance ESP competency in materials development and teaching; and discussions involving topics such as the development or revision of an English curriculum.

１．研究会の概要
　本研究会は、国内外での英語をはじめとした外国語教育一般を研究対象としています。また、大学の取り組みに向けて、保育園及び幼稚園・小学校、中学校、高校なども含む広い範囲での外国語教育に関心を持っています。会員は、主に大学教員、高校教員、中学教員などから構成されています。
　基本的に２年ごとにプロジェクトをたちあげて、定めたテーマを中心に例会にて研究発表を行い、みんなでデスカッションをし、最後にその成果をまとめ、大会での発表や出版物の発行などを通じて、わが国の外国語教育のあり方について問い直すことを目標としています。しかし、掲げたテーマ以外でも、現状の外国語教育に関連する研究発表や読書会、講演会なども随時行っていきます。

２．2008年度の活動報告
京都で4回の研究会を開催しました。前プロジェクトのテーマ「EUの外国語教育政策―日本の外国語教育の構築に向けて」を中心に、ベルギー、チェコスロバキア、カンボジアの言語政策の発表とEU、アメリカ合衆国、日本の言語政策の歴史的変遷についての発表が行われました。また、新テーマに関連した韓国の英語の中等教員採用試験制度とフィリピンの言語教育の研究発表も行われました。

３．2009～2010年度の活動予定
　上記のテーマを中心に、年間５～６回の研究会を開催する予定です。会員の研究発表や学会発表、外部からの講師を招聘しての講演、読書会など企画しております。例会の開催地、日時などの詳細は随時、当会のホームページでお知らせしていきます。

１. Overview of Foreign Language Education Abroad SIG

The Group of Research on Foreign Language Education Abroad is studying language education systems in foreign countries. We are concerned with not only English education but also other non-English language education. The research area includes pre-primary, primary and secondary education as well as tertiary education. Our group consists of about 30 members from the Kansai and Nagoya areas; mainly educators who teach foreign languages at universities, high schools and junior high schools. We invite new members who can exchange opinions and share information with us concerning language education policies.

２．Our Research Activities in 2009 and Before

For the last four years we have focused our efforts surveying foreign language education in the EU: its various educational and language policies, its education system, curricula, teacher-training system, teacher qualifications, education evaluation, ongoing educational reforms, investigation into the actual circumstances, textbooks & teaching materials, and updated teaching methods. The results of this research can be found in Sekai no Gaikokugo Seisaku : Nihon no Gaikokugo Kyouiku no Saikouchiku ni Mukete (Language Teaching Policy in the 21st Century) published by Toshindo Publishing Co., LTD. in 2004 and EU Shokoku no Gengo Kyoiku Seisaku (Language Teaching Policies in the EU) published by Kurosio Shoten.

３．Our Research Plan for 2010

Study meetings are held 5 to 6 times a year in which members or invited lecturers make presentations related to our research themes. We are planning to offer chances to report the actual circumstances of foreign language education for educators working at elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools and universities in Japan, or other countries.

◆教材開発研究会（Material Design and Development SIG）

１．研究会の概要
本研究会は、短大生・大学生を対象とした効果的な英語学習教材の開発と研究を目的としています。会員は現在20名程度です。例会では、英語教材の出版や研究に関して活発な議論を毎回行います。

２．2009年度の活動報告
2009年度、JACET関西支部教材開発研究会では、梅田大阪産業大学サテライトキャンパスとウィングス京都で例会を定期的に開催しました。当研究会が開発した英語プレゼンテーション教材『Power Presentation』(三修社)と、同じく当研究会が開発し刊行予定の『（仮）連想バブルで覚えるボキャブラリー』(英潮社フェニックス社)に関して、内容や使用に関する妥当性・改善点等を議論し合い、教材理論研究を行いました。前者に関しては、採用者の使用状況や率直な使用感を調査すべくアンケート表を作成し調査を実施しました。後者においては、連想バブルに関連する研究書や研究論文の紹介を行い、連想バブルの論理的有意性について研究を進めました。さらに、授業で実際に連想バブルを活用している先生方にも実践報告をして頂き、実用面においても議論しました。特に、連想バブルの活用が語彙学習のみならず、リーディングやライティングにもある程度の効果があることが確認されました。尚、第8次プロジェクトから継続して開発されてきたリーディング教材「英語コミュニケーション力アップは多読と精読から」が英宝社より出版されました。

３．2010年度の活動予定
定例会議は、5月、7月、8月、9月、10月、12月、2月、3月の開催を予定しています。特に、『Power Presentation』に関するアンケート調査結果を分析し、有効性や改善点を検討する予定です。また、連想バブルに関する研究の一環として、単語間の連想と記憶の間に通底する関連性なども議論する予定です。その調査結果については、10月2日のJACET関西支部シンポジウムで発表する予定となっています。

４．新入会希望者へのメッセージ
　本研究会は、短大生・大学生を対象とした英語教材の研究開発と出版活動を主に行っています。和気藹々とした雰囲気の中で会員が議論を重ねることで、最終的に英語教材を出版、あるいは教材開発に関する研究発表という成果に結実しています。例会は1～2ヶ月に1度、ウィングス京都やキャンパスプラザ京都などで開催されます。これまでリーディング教材、４技能教材、CALL教材、ライティング教材、プレゼンテーション教材などを出版してきました。現在、第9次プロジェクトの英語語彙教材「連想バブルで覚えるボキャブラリー」(英潮社フェニックス)が今秋の出版へ向けて最終段階へとさしかかっています。
　今年度は、今後の教材作成に貢献できるよう教材の理論研究を進めていく予定です。教材開発・教材研究に関心のある方は、是非ご連絡下さい。

１. Overview of Materials Development SIG

The main aim in this SIG is to design and develop the English materials (esp., textbooks) for the Japanese college and university students. In regular meetings, we mainly present the various ideas for the English materials, thereby the intense discussion is conducted from both theoretical and practical aspects.

２．Our Research Activity in 2009

Our SIG held a regular meeting every other month in the Osaka or Kyoto area. First, we discussed the validity of the English presentation textbook “Power Presentation” previously developed by our SIG. In particular, we conducted the questionnaire survey for the usability of the textbook. Second, we discussed the brand-new textbook for English vocabulary learning which will be published this year. Since we have adopted the word association approach in the development of this textbook, we critically discussed how this approach is effective for the English vocabulary learning based on several academic researches. In particular, members of our SIG also reported the practical aspects of this approach, especially in English lessons for Japanese learners of English. Based on this report, we confirmed that this approach is effective for the improvement of English reading and writing skills, as well.

３．Our Research Activity in 2010

Our regular meetings are held in May, July, August, September, October, December, February, and March. The main topics of the meetings are two-fold. First, we will critically analyze the results of the questionnaire survey for the usability of the English presentation textbook “Power Presentation.” Second, we will discuss how the association of words is related to human memory, especially from theoretical aspects. We will present our research results at the Symposium (JACET KANSAI Chapter) on October 2nd, 2010.

４．Messages to Prospective Members

Currently, we have around 20 regular members from various fields, including applied linguistics, theoretical linguistics, and English literature, contributing to the effective English material design and developments from multiple perspectives. The members of our SIG are open, active, and frank (sometimes too frank), creating the cozy atmosphere for the meaningful discussion of the topic. In such an atmosphere, we have published textbooks for various English skills such as reading, writing, presentation, CALL, and so on. The new textbook for English vocabulary learning will also be published from Eichosha soon. Regular meetings are held one or two times every other month in the Osaka or Kyoto area. １．研究会の概要
　リスニング研究会では、これまで10年以上に渡ってテキストの作成を行ってきましたが、メンバーの要望により昨年度(2009年度)から「リスニング・ストラテジー」に関する研究を計画しています。
　研究成果を出すことが主目的ではなく、各メンバーが学習の機会を得ることを重視しています。たとえば、研究を行うためには先行研究を読むことが不可欠となり、これにより各メンバーのリスニングについての理解が深まるものと考えています。
　昨年(2009年)は、主に研究テーマを決めるために、まず、お互いが抱いている「リスニング指導」に対する問題点を出し合い、その後、テーマを以前作成したテキストの中で扱っていた「リスニング・ストラテジー」に絞り、先行研究を読んでその概要を例会で発表し合いました。昨年度後半には、各メンバーが研究案を提出し、意見交換の後、「大学生のリスニング・ストラテジー利用と習熟度の関係についての調査」としました。私たちの狙いは、単に関係を見るだけだはなく、どのストラテジーを指導すれば、どのような効果が得られるのかを、習熟度別に解明していくことにありますが、初めての研究でもありますので、先行研究とあまりかけ離れない追調査的なものにして、その代りメンバーがテーマのみならず、研究・分析法にも習熟することを目標としています。
　今年度(2010年度)に入り、具体的な計画案が一旦は完成しましたが、問題点が出るたびに修正を重ね、現在もまだ決めるべき点は残っています。夏期休暇中に質問紙を完成し、9月～10月にかけてリスニングテストと合わせて約300名の大学生に配布・回答してもらう予定です。後期中にデータを収集し、23年春期休暇中に分析を行い、形のあるものにしたいと考えています。

２．2008年度の活動報告
月に１～２回の例会を開催し、2007年度に開始したPower-Up English《入門編》の作成を行いました。これで、《初級編》、《中級編》、《上級編》に加えて４つのレベルが揃い、Power-Up Englishの作成はこれで完結となりました。

３．2009～2010年度の活動予定
「リスニング・ストラテジー」を主軸とするテキストを、今後３年～４年の期間で完成することを目標としています。ですが、テキスト執筆を開始する前に、メンバー全員の共通理解を深めるため、約半年程度を、勉強会と共同研究に充てていくことが決まっています。当面、学習・研究するべき内容は「リスニング・ストラテジーとは何か」、「リスニングを指導するとはどういうことか」「そもそもリスニングの指導は可能なのか」、「リスニング力の伸長度はどのように測定すればいいのか」などです。いずれも、容易に答えが見つかる問題ではありませんので、学習・研究の期間が延びることも考えられます。この間にできるだけ、意見交換やレポートを通して、メンバー間で統一した見解が得られればと考えています。

４．新入会希望者へのメッセージ
リスニングの指導に興味のある方ならどなたでも参加していただけます。ただし、テキストの執筆になるとミーティングの回数が多くなり、長期休暇中には月に３回集まっていただいたこともあります。ミーティングの会場は、今のところ大阪市内の学習センターをお借りしていますので、アクセスは悪くありません。開催日は土曜日が多いですが、日曜日に開かれることもたまにあり、また長期休暇中は平日に行っています。毎回参加者は１０名前後、アットホームな研究会で、ベネフィット（？）も多いですが、必ず「宿題」が出ますのでご了承ください。

１．研究会の概要
語彙・文法・意味・談話処理などの言語処理のプロセスに着目し、EFL学習者の英文読解プロセスについて理解を深めることを目指しております。近年は、ワーキングメモリと読解の関わり、シャドーイングや音読の理論、語彙力と読解力の関係、読解処理の自動化、リーディングにおけるfluencyなどをテーマとして、読解プロセスの詳細を掘り下げることを目指してきました。また、基礎研究に基づき、英語リーディングの指導、語彙指導など授業の実践に関わる問題を様々な視点から議論しております。そのために実証研究・実践研究発表と輪読会の二本立てを原則に毎月1回研究会を開いております。

２．2009年度の活動報告
前年度に引き続き、会員の選択した言語処理などに関わる研究書を月1回輪読し、議論や意見交換を通して、専門分野に関するお互いの知見を深めることが出来ました。また、会員による研究・実践発表も毎月行い、活発な質疑応答を通して、研究視点の新たな発見もありました。9月には、東京大学の峯松信明先生をお招きし言語音声、シャドーイングに関する講演会とシンポジウムを開催し、80名近くの方に来て頂きました。またライティング指導研究会との合同例会を開催することで他支部の研究会との交流を深めることができました。

1. Main Theme

The main focus of the Reading Research Group is to understand L2 reading processes while considering multiple related pedagogical issues from both theoretical and practical aspects. In the past several years, we have worked on several problems related to L2 reading comprehension: 1) how working memory can explain L2 reading, 2) how shadowing and oral reading practices can improve decoding skills, 3) how to improve student automaticity of reading processes, and 4) how to enhance the reading fluency of our students. Through discussion of these topics, we have been better able to understand the complex nature of L2 reading. Our discussion also helps us deal with issues related to reading instruction, such as using translations, vocabulary learning, and the effects of extensive reading. We hold a meeting every month, and every time we read and discuss about reading research in turn and have one member present his or her research paper.

２．Summary of Activities in 2009

In 2009, we continuously held a meeting every month for reading a book we chose about L2 reading research and had our members present their research papers regarding various topics in EFL-related fields. In September, we also invited a guest speaker (Dr. Minematsu from the University of Tokyo) who gave us a lecture about human speech sounds and shadowing which drew about 80 participants. We also held a collaborative forum with the Writing Research Group in November and could share information about reading and writing instruction.

1. 研究会の概要
本研究会では、大学における英文のライティング指導の在り方と実践的指導法について考えています。

2. 2009年度研究会活動の概要
ライティング指導研究会では「大学における英文のライティング指導の在り方と実践的指導法について考える」という基本方針に基づいて、日本の大学の教員がライティング指導で必要とするライティング指導法、フィードバックの方法、評価法などをまとめたハンドブックを作成、出版したいと考えており、今年度からこのライティング指導ハンドブック作成に向けて研究活動を進めています。
2009年度は4月、7月、10月、12月、3月（2回）で計6回の例会を、主に同志社大学今出川キャンパスで開催しました。そのうち4月から12月までの例会ではハンドブックの方向性を決めるための話し合いを行い、3月の2回の例会では、メンバーの共通基盤を作る目的も兼ねてライティングおよびライティング教育に関する概説書を輪読しました。
また、今年度は初めての試みとして、同じく関西支部のリーディング研究会と合同例会を開きました。ライティング指導研究会からはメンバー4人が「授業で使えるライティング・ルーブリックの開発と検証」の題目で研究発表を行いました。リーディングとライティングという、関わりが深いが異なる2つの観点から活発な意見交換がなされ、大変有意義な例会となりました。

3. 2010年度の活動予定
2009年度に引き続き、ライティング指導のハンドブック作成のための基礎研究を行います。2009年度の研究会で行った話し合いや輪読をもとにハンドブックの各章の内容となる項目を決定し、それらについてそれぞれ先行研究の研究成果をまとめ、ハンドブック作成の一つのステップとして、年度末に紀要を出版する予定です。
例会は４月、７月、１０月、１２月、２月、３月に開催する予定である。

4. 新入会希望者へのメッセージ
日本の高等教育機関では、ライティング力はあまり重視されてきませんでしたが、欧米の高等教育機関では、ライティング力は、自らの学業を進める上で、不可欠のスキルとして位置づけられています。本研究会では、この重要なライティング力を向上させるためには、どのような指導をしたらよいのかを、様々な角度から長年研究してきました。
４年前から、近年注目を浴びているポートフォリオを日本のライティング指導の現場でいかに取り入れるかを検討してきました。まずその一環として、ルーブリック（評価表）を作成しました。今後はこのルーブリックを実際に教育の現場で使えるものにしていきたいと思っております。また、大学教員がライティング指導で必要とする英語表現、パラグラフの指導法、評価法などをまとめたハンドブックを作成・出版することも目標です。
上記のようなテーマに興味をお持ちの方は、ふるってご参加ください。
例会は、年6回程度、通常同志社大学今出川キャンパスで開いております。（具体的な日時に関しましては、代表までお問い合わせください。）日頃の問題点をメンバーと共有するだけでも多くの収穫を得ることができます。

1. Main Theme

The Writing Research Group has been exploring theoretical and pedagogical aspects of second language writing, focusing on college student writers in English in Japan.

２．Summary of Activities in 2009

In 2009 we embarked on a new, big project of writing a handbook on how to teach writing in English at college and university in Japan, in the hope of publishing it in a few years. The handbook would address such issues as course design, needs and levels of Japanese college student writers, writing topics, tasks, textbook and/or reading materials, instructional techniques and activities at various stages of writing, feedback, and assessment.
For the purpose of the handbook project, we met six times in the academic year of 2009, once each in April, July, October, and December and twice in March, most often at Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus. The first four meetings were discussions on the orientation and framework of the handbook. In the two meetings in March, we read chapter by chapter of Second Language Writing by Ken Hyland (2003), so that the members would develop a shared understanding of major issues of second language writing.
Meanwhile, the Reading Research Group and the Writing Research Group held a collaborative forum in November to share and discuss problems and issues of the two distinct but interrelated areas.

３．Plans for 2010

We continue the writing instruction handbook project. This year’s main activities are (1) to determine the detailed content of the handbook according to the framework and orientation we discussed last year, and (2) to complete the research that would provide a basis for the handbook. The research will be published in the next issue of our bulletin in March 2011.
We are meeting in April, July, October, December, February, and March at Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus in Kyoto.

４．Messages to Prospective Members

While well-developed writing skills are recognized as one of the keys to academic and professional success in English, not much writing instruction is given in English classes in Japanese higher education. To develop the critical writing skills of Japanese college students, the Writing Research Group has been doing research on writing and teaching writing, from various points of view, for more than a decade.
One of our recent research focuses was portfolio. We examined how portfolio assessment could be introduced into writing classes in Japan (see The Bulletin of the Writing Research Group Vol.7, 2006). As part of the portfolio research, we developed a writing rubric for Japanese college students (see JACET Journal No.45, 2007). Since then, several members of ours have been working on the improvement and validation of the rubric, so that it would be used widely in English classes in Japan (see The Bulletin of the Writing Research Group Vol.8, 2009).
Our current research project is to write a handbook that would help English teachers to teach writing, in a writing course or in an integrated course, at college and university in Japan, in the hope that teaching writing would be less formidable and more prevalent and effective. We plan to publish the handbook in a couple of years.

　18年度からJACETの研究会として「英語教育総合研究会」が設立されました。簡単に言えば、従来の研究会は英語教育の細分化された専門研究に限定されている傾向にあるため、英語教育に関わるテーマを総合的かつ学際的に討議しようという研究会です。英語教育プロパー以外の分野の方の参加を得てその知見を結集し、英語教育のありかたについて既成の研究枠の考え方に囚われず、ブレーンストーミングし、新たな認識を得るとともにより良い英語教育に生かしていくことが眼目です。これまでのシンポジウムのプログラムと概要については、HPをご覧ください。
　この研究会は「専門分野の著名な方の特別講演」と「旬なトピックについての討議」、「研究発表」という構成で、その内容（研究会での討議を含む）を精選したものを後日出版することになっています。研究活動の成果を英語教師はじめ学習者、一般市民にもアクセスできる形での社会貢献を意識しています。
　現在およそ380名の方からご賛同を得ていますが、毎回の研究会には60-80名前後の方（＊大学院生、大学、高校、中学、小学校の先生のほか翻訳者や早期英語教育の実践者など一般の方を含みます）にご参加いただいています。会員になっていただける方は成田までご連絡下さい。（経常的な会費は設定しておりません。）研究会の開催と概要を含むプログラムをご通知いたします。研究会の開催は年に二回程度ですが、時間の都合のついた時にご参加いただければ結構です。会員になられるかどうかに関係なく、参加は自由です。研究発表は随時募集しています。発表題目ならびに400字の概要と150字の要旨を添えて、成田までメールで申し込んでください。WSなどの企画もお寄せ下さい。

1. Main Theme

The traditional councils mainly focus on specialized fields of English education. This council aims to focus on interdisciplinary or integrated research for English education, with correspondent of other related study fields such as linguistics, psychology, translation, theory of interpretation, brain function imaging etc. Occasionally meetings will be held with members of other English councils to report and discuss the study results of their SIGs. Other field researchers are welcome to participate for discussion and brainstorming. By brainstorming we hope to gain new prospective and ideas that will enhance the English education for the society.

Each time 60 to 80 members participate and that includes graduate students, college teachers, high school teachers, elementary school teachers, translators and others.
